The Atlas aggregates a number of datasets across the creative ecosystem in Wales from various data sources and provided by different organisations. We aim to update the data and the Atlas regularly. The current datasets available on the Atlas are detailed below
Creative industries Wales (2023)
The creative industries dataset is based on the Bureau Van Dijk database, which is based on micro-firm data from Companies House using standard industrial classification of economic activities (SIC) codes. The data for Wales has been cleaned and analysed. Data is depicted for 2023 (data is available for 2 years prior to research due to filing requirements).
You can sort for different sector delineations applying different SIC codes including the creative industries delineation of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), the sector delineation of Creative Wales and the media sector delineation of Media Cymru.
You can also analyse the data in different geographical breakdowns including at a regional level and at a local authority level. The Cardiff data here is based on companies with the local authority boundary. Please note that while national totals for employment, business turnover, and the number of businesses are accurate and aligned with our reporting, regional subtotals may differ slightly because a number of companies in Wales lack detailed geographical data.
You can find more details about the methodology and data approach in the publications of
Clwstwr
and
Media Cymru .
Creative Spaces (2023)
